MAY 2011

In This Issue
There are a great many people helping to keep Yellowstone a place we want to visit again and again. There are friends, like you, who give generously. There are organizations, such as the Yellowstone Park Foundation and our partners, who work behind the scenes. And there are individuals who devote their lives in service to the national parks, like Yellowstone’s new Superintendent, whom you will meet in this issue. Together, we are helping to ensure that Yellowstone's magic endures for all time.

The Yellowstone Park Foundation is pleased to welcome Dan Wenk, who assumed his duties as Yellowstone's new superintendent in February. He now manages more than 2.2-million acres, a staff of 800, and an annual base budget of more than $36 million -- the largest operating budget of any park in the National Park Service. We recently sat down with him to talk about his career in the national parks, and about what he envisions for Yellowstone’s future.

If you've stayed in a Yellowstone hotel in the past decade, you may be familiar with the “Dollar-per-Night” guest donation program. Since 2000, Park lodging concessionaire Xanterra Parks & Resorts, which manages Yellowstone National Park Lodges, has encouraged guests upon checkout to support the Yellowstone Park Foundation. Now a new partner is building on the success of the program.
