JULY 2013

Welcome, YPF Friend, to Yellowstone eNews!

In This Issue
Photography is one of the most popular activities inside Yellowstone. But YPF staff was still amazed by the enthusiasm for our first annual “Capturing Wonderland” photo contest. This month we are proud to publish the top three prize-winning images, as well as offer an inside look at an amazing Park program for teens. Yellowstone’s Youth Conservation Corps is in its 24th consecutive year of shaping tomorrow’s stewards. Be sure and read what one former enrollee shared with us about his experience. Also, check out photos of the grand opening of the Old Faithful Haynes Photo Shop – a “don’t miss” part of anyone’s Yellowstone itinerary!

Our "Capturing Wonderland" Photo Contest Winners

Photo Contest - third place winner
Yellowstone Park Foundation staff were impressed and overwhelmed with the 440 entries we received in the month of June as we launched “Capturing Wonderland.” Narrowing down the selection was difficult, and we were grateful for the help of renowned Yellowstone photographer Tom Murphy, who chose our first, second, and third place winners. Thanks to all who entered, and congratulations to our winners! Here's a look at the prize-winning images...

Former YCC Enrollee Shares Program's Influence

Yellowstone Youth Conservation Corps
Six years ago Damian Johns was a teen from Dallas who had never visited Yellowstone. Then his dad read an article about the Youth Conservation Corps. (YCC) program inside the Park. YCC offers teens a month-long, paid residential experience where they learn, work outside on a variety of tasks, and recreate with other teens from across the U.S. Damian was intrigued by the opportunity, applied, and was accepted into the program.

Many thanks to all who worked to make our week of grand opening festivities memorable.Since opening on the 22nd of June, we’ve received great feedback from visitors.
