Tomorrow's Stewards

The Yellowstone Park Foundation supports projects that promote the understanding, appreciation, and stewardship of Yellowstone among the next generation.

 

Expedition Yellowstone

Expedition: Yellowstone!

A multi-day, curriculum-based residential program that brings youth in grades 4 through 8 to the Park, students gain first-hand knowledge of Yellowstone’s natural and cultural resources, and learn about issues affecting its ecosystem. The Park would like to double the 1,500 participants that currently participate each year.

$40 Funds one student for a day

Youth Conservation Corps (YCC)

Funding Needed 2015: $328,000 Annually

Engaging youth ages 15 to 18, YCC is an education, leadership, work, and outdoor recreation program giving teens from diverse backgrounds a one-month summer work experience in Yellowstone National Park. Work projects include building buck-rail fence near thermal features, removing trails that develop near wildlife viewing areas, and collecting native seed to be used later in restoration projects. Approximately 24 students participate in one of two sessions each summer.

Park Journeys

Park Journeys

Funding Needed: $90,000 Annually

Underserved urban and rural youth embark on a five-day adventure in one of the world’s finest outdoor classrooms. It inspires stewardship and nurtures leadership and academic potential among youth whose opportunities in nature have been limited. Funding will offer five one-week programs.

$1,800 Sponsors a teen’s first trip to Yellowstone

Let’s Move Outside

Let’s Move Outside

Funding Needed: $28,700

Designed to get visitors active by walking on boardwalk trails, hiking front and backcountry trails, and participating in ranger-led programs and activities like the Junior Ranger Wildlife Olympics at Yellowstone, this program has a summer 2016 goal of 30,000 participating youth.

Distance Learning Programs

Funding Needed: $100,000 for 2 years

Urban Outreach Initiative

Yellowstone Rangers to provide on-site training in a major city to K-12 students with information about Yellowstone resources and National Park Service careers, supplemented by distance learning live sessions for schools.

Distance Learning

Yellowstone will expand the distance learning live education programming sessions available across the country, and around the world. The goal is to increase participants from 11,000 each year to 22,000 participants by 2016.

Curriculum Development

Funds will support updating the Expedition Yellowstone curriculum, including the development of a new section on climate change, as well as supporting “traveling trunk” curriculum development and other lesson plans as needed.
