Open daily from 10am to 6pm (Memorial Day through October 15th)

Picture Yellowstone at the Historic Haynes Photo Shop is a collection of activities and exhibits that explore the history and future of art in Yellowstone National Park. Approaching the Old Faithful geyser, visitors are welcome to join programs under our shaded porch and step inside to learn from friendly volunteers. Looking to relax and recharge? Spend some time in our rocking chairs sipping a glass of lemonade. While you take in the view, feel free to plug in to a recharge station and give your phone a boost.

Visitors of all ages are encouraged to “Share YOUR Yellowstone Story” through the FREE daily activities. These include the video capture at the Yellowstone Story Porch (all day), family-friendly Painting Yellowstone (2:00 PM), and improve your Instagram cred at the Smarter Phone Photo Tips (11:00 AM). For those looking for an insider experience, sign up for a Private Tour with an on-site Yellowstone Association Institute instructor (based upon availability). Aspiring photographers are encouraged to share their stories through #PictureYellowstone to win daily prizes and enter our weekly competition.

A tour of the exhibits will educate visitors about F. J. Haynes’ exploration of early photography and gives them access to the Haynes Photo Booth where you can take a retro selfie. The Digital Darkroom allows you to share your photo, browse National Park Service social media photos, and stay up-to-date on geyser eruption times. On-site information volunteers help educate visitors about the role of the Yellowstone Park Foundation and philanthropy in Yellowstone. Supporters of the park receive a “Thank You” gift that can help take better smart phone photos. Before leaving, help support safety in Yellowstone by signing our Safe Selfie Pledge.

In June 2013, YPF completed restoration of the Old Faithful Haynes Photo Shop, a place for Park visitors to learn about YPF and stewardship inside the Park, while paying tribute to Yellowstone’s legacy of photography. Restoring the building was no small feat: It required moving the building to a more visitor-friendly location near Old Faithful geyser and the challenge of achieving LEED Certification -- in keeping with the Park’s sustainability goals -- while maintaining the structure’s historic integrity.
